Rebecca
Hallam was raised in Austin,
Texas, but feels a strong spiritual
connection to Mexico, where
she was born. Since she was
a young child, Rebecca spent
her summers in San Miguel de
Allende, a picturesque colonial
town in central Mexcio that
is known for its bohemian arts
and culture. Her experiences
in San Miguel helped shape her
aesthetic influences as a jewelry
designer and much of her work
today is reflective of the time
she spent living there.
Rebecca
dabbled in fashion and design
since graduating from college,
but it wasn't until after giving
birth to her daughter that she
started to get serious about
pursuing it. As a young mother,
she could not afford the beautiful
jewelry that she loved. Then
she met a local family of artists
while summering in San Miguel
with her family. She took them
some pieces of her great grandmother's
jewelry that had been made in
Mexico and asked them to redesign
it to make it more current,
yet maintain its classic style.
From there she started designing
pieces for herself and her friends.
Friends began asking to buy
her work and Rebecca Hallam
Designs was born.
Part
of the appeal of Rebecca's work
is how she merges current trends
with a unique eclecticism and
timeless style. The result is
luxurious yet affordable jewelry
that embraces the mood of each
trend, while maintaining a sense
of history. Rebecca explains
it best herself, "My business
started out of a desire for
beautiful things. Although I'm
influenced by current trends,
I'm drawn to classic pieces
that could have been my great
grandmother's. I believe jewelry
can affect your attitude- like
a beautiful dress, it changes
the way you feel in your clothes."
